The district estimated that the combination of the two schools into a single facility would save $600,000 per year (equivalent to $800,000 in 2022) after up-front costs of the merger estimated at $400,000. By the 1980s, the enrollment in the two predecessor schools had been little more than half the combined peak of 4,000 that had been reached in the 1970s.
